Shapefile Upload Troubleshooting

The following are some common problems that can create errors with uploaded shapefiles.

• Component parts. Confirm that your zip file contains all of the shapefile's component parts. At a minimum these should include files with the .shp, .shx, .dbf, and .prj extensions.
• No nested folders. Confirm that the shapefile component parts are located directly in the zip file root, not nested in a sub-folder within the .zip file
• No other fodlers. Confirm that no other folders are contained in the zip file. In particular, Mac OS will sometimes insert a foler titled "_MACOSX" into the .zip file. Remove this if it is included.
• Large .xml files. Check the size of the .shp.xml file which hold's the shapefile's metadata. These files can sometimes get very large when geoprocessing history is automatically tracked or if other large content is included. Remove this .shp.xml from the zip file and try again.
